Geodesy

Geodesy describes the size and shape of the earth based on a geometric datum. We are the custodian of National Geodetic Datum and Maintenance and carry out high order Survey Control Network(Horizontal & Vertical) based on the local geoid model linked to the Tide Guages around the country.High Order Surveys are based on world datum using GPS. GIS Mapping and International Border Demarcation which includes computing GPS data onto the National Geodetic Datum(PNG 94). We also provide services for lower order survey such as Cadastral, Mininig, Engineering surveys to our local Meridian.

We also look after the DORIS France System that collects satellite data.

The Geodetic section has collected a nationwide positioning of Infrastructures such as Villages,schools,health facilities and roads etc.Precision of up to +/- 10m uncorrected and +/- 1m for corrected positioning for any mapping purposes.

Base GPS Data:

The GPS (Global Positioning System) receiver tracts at 24hrs and daily data are downloaded to the PC daily. Required by Earth Science and other research institutes in the world for techtonic motion detection.The data is also required by Surveyors,Engineers and Land Users as a relative means of position for development.It is only accessible by staff.
