About Us

 

Physical Planning Division is located on the 3 rd Floor of Aopi Centre Building, along Waigani Drive .

 

Physical Planning is the spatial expression of the desired form of social and economic development.

 

The purpose of Physical Planning is to establish and maintain a framework of Physical Planning nationwide which aligns the ongoing conversion of land uses and spatial development with long term government objectives for sustainable economic and social development.

 

Physical Planning provides four important functions as follows:-

 

The Office of the Chief Physical Planner is established under the Physical Planning Act to administer the act and maintain physical planning standards nationwide.

 

The framework unit is concerned with formulation of physical planning policies in land use, urban resettlement, subdivision design, infrastructure and urbanization. Framework also sets guidelines and monitors planning standards through preparation and review of circulars and handbooks and inspection of performance of offices and boards nationwide.

 

Development Planning is concerned with supervision and preparation of physical development plans for land use planning, subdivision design, infrastructure plans for rural and urban areas, urban resettlement plans and National Urbanization Plan. (NUPLAN)

 

The Development Assessment unit is concerned with assessment of proposed developments and enforcement of development control within Physical Planning areas. Development assessment also provides services to the National Physical Planning Board and the PNG Physical Planning Appeals Tribunal.
