Map Revision Section

Map Revision used to be the Remote Sensing Section until the recent Restructure of the Department of Lands and Physical Planning. It is headed by the Map Revision Manager and is responsible for the following:

•  PHOTO MOSAIC MAPS

These are made up from recent black and white aerial photography and cover towns and administrative centres in PNG.

•  AERIAL PHOTOGRAPHY

NMB provides aerial photography as photographic prints and enlargements, scanned air photos and orthorectified imagery. Aerial photographs are also used for special purposes such as mapping natural disasters and other emergency events.

This detailed topographic information captured by the photograph is also turned into digital datasets and mapping products available from NMB.

•  SATELLITE IMAGERY

As well as archiving historical satellite data for the National Government a range of products and services have been developed to support natural resource and land management. Many are also used extensively by agricultural industries, rural planners, developers, exploration industries, environmental groups and other Government Agencies. Products are available in a variety of formats and can be combined with other data sets to produce customised maps and images.
